What is Activated Carbon ?
2025-09-15 11:32:20
Activated carbon (also called activated charcoal) is a highly porous form of carbon processed to have small, low-volume pores that significantly increase its surface area available for adsorption (not absorption) or chemical reactions.
Think of it as a microscopic sponge with an incredibly vast internal surface. Just one gram of activated carbon can have a surface area in excess of 3,000 square meters (32,000 sq ft), as determined by gas adsorption. This massive surface area is what gives it its remarkable ability to trap impurities.
